Elena Marchetti leads the European Central Bank's AI strategy from Frankfurt. Prior to her appointment as CAIO in 2024, she was Director of Quantitative Research at the Bank of Italy and Fellow at the MIT Media Lab. Her team developed the first LLM-based systemic risk early-warning system monitoring all 400 banks supervised by the ECB. She holds a cum laude doctorate in Computational Economics from Università Bocconi and has authored over 40 articles in Nature, Science, and NBER.
